Statement of Purpose

These Handbooks are  intended for individuals affiliated with The College of St. Scholastica—whether as staff, faculty, or students—and may be referred to throughout as "the College", "St. Scholastica or “CSS." Its purpose is to provide, in a convenient format, general policies, procedures, practices, and information relevant to your role within the College community.

The Handbooks are not a contract and do not establish a contractual relationship between the College and any individual. They are not legal documents and should not be interpreted as such. The content is intended to offer a general framework for addressing a variety of situations that may arise.

For union-represented employees, the applicable collective bargaining agreement governs the terms and conditions of employment. In cases where these Handbooks conflict with a collective bargaining agreement, the agreement shall take precedence.

The College reserves the right to revise, modify, or eliminate any policy, procedure, or section of the Handbooks at its sole discretion and without prior notice. Any changes will be communicated through appropriate channels, and it is the responsibility of each individual to stay informed of such updates. 

However, in areas where faculty shared governance principles apply, the College will follow its established governance structures for policy development, consultation, and approval before implementing revisions

The College is not responsible for the content or accuracy of any external websites linked or referenced in this Handbook.
If any provision of this Handbook conflicts with applicable federal, state, or local law, that provision may be considered void without affecting the validity of the remainder of the Handbook.

The Handbooks located in the college repository supersede and replace all previous versions or similar documents published by The College of St. Scholastica.

For any questions not addressed in these Handbooks, individuals should consult the appropriate office, such as Human Resources, Academic Affairs, or Student Affairs, for guidance.
