School Conferences and Classroom Activities

Issued By: Human Resources

Effective Date: July 1990

Revised: May 1995; December 2009

An employee who works 50% or more of full-time may use up to 16 hours of unpaid leave during any 12-month period to attend his/her child's school conferences, classroom activities, pre-kindergarten or special education programs. This leave will be granted only if the activities cannot be scheduled during nonworking hours. Employees with children in school, preschool, or child care services are eligible for these leaves.

The employee must provide reasonable prior notice and make a reasonable effort to schedule the leave so as not to disrupt the operations of the department or office.

Accrued vacation leave may be substituted for the unpaid leave. Accrued sick leave may not be used.
