Parenting Leave

An employee who has been employed by the College for at least 12 months, works 50% or more of full-time, and is a natural or adoptive parent, may request a parenting leave of absence for up to six weeks in conjunction with the birth or adoption of a child. The leave of absence must be requested in writing to the department head with a copy to Human Resources at least one month prior to beginning the leave.

The leave must begin within 6 weeks of the birth or adoption of the child unless the child must remain in the hospital longer than the mother in which case it must begin within 6 weeks after the child leaves the hospital.

The employee may use any combination of vacation leave, sick leave, and/or unpaid leave while on parenting leave. FMLA will run concurrently with parenting leave. Upon the conclusion of the leave, the employee will return to his/her position or to a position of comparable duties, hours, and pay with no loss of employment status.
