Full-time and part-time employees are eligible for bereavement leave.
A paid leave of up to three days is granted to attend the funeral or co make funeral arrangements for a member of the employee's immediate family. Immediate family includes spouse, parents, stepparents, or someone who stood in loco parentis to the employee (when the employee was a son or daughter), children, stepchildren, siblings, inlaws, grandparents, grandchildren, or a member of immediate household (with the approval of Human Resources).
Bereavement leave for part-time employees is prorated according to the percentage time established for the position.
This policy does not provide paid bereavement leave for aunts, uncles, cousins or close friends. However, employees may use vacation leave for these purposes.
Supervisors may approve additional time off, within reasonable limits, to be deducted from sick leave (not to exceed two days), vacation leave or without pay, if circumstances such as travel distances or responsibility for settling the affairs of the deceased warrant such additional time.
