How To Update Bookmarks in Popular Internet Browsers

Before You Begin

Browsers may use the term bookmark or favorite, but they mean the same thing. They are a way to save the web address of a site so you can navigate to it quickly without having to re-type the full address each time.

Steps

Select a link below to jump to instructions for that browser:

Google Chrome

  1. On your computer, open Chrome
  2. From the top-right corner, select the 3 vertical dots, then Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager
  3. Find the bookmark you wish to update
  4. Right-click the bookmark, or select the 3 vertical dots to the right of it, and select Edit
  5. Change the URL field to be the new address for the bookmark
  6. Select Save
  7. You're done! The bookmark is now updated to the new URL you entered.

Microsoft Edge

  1. On your computer, open Edge
  2. From the top-right corner, select the 3 horizontal dots, then Favorites
  3. Find the favorite you wish to update
  4. Right-click the favorite and select Edit
  5. Change the URL field to be the new address for the favorite
  6. Select Save
  7. You're done! The favorite is now updated to the new URL you entered.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. On your computer, open Firefox
  2. From the top-right corner, select the 3 horizontal lines and then select Bookmarks
  3. Find the bookmark you wish to update
  4. Right-click the bookmark and select Edit Bookmark...
  5. Change the URL field to be the new address for the bookmark
  6. Select Save
  7. You're done! The bookmark is now updated to the new URL you entered.

Safari

  1. On your computer, open Safari
  2. Select the Sidebar button in the toolbar and select Bookmarks
  3. Find the bookmark you wish to update
  4. Control-click a the bookmark to open the shortcut menu
  5. Change the URL to be the new address for the bookmark
  6. Select Save
  7. You're done! The bookmark is now updated to the new URL you entered.
