The student body will have clearly defined means of participating in the formulation and application of institutional policy affecting academic and student affairs. Students will have the right to establish and elect a student government. The student press will be free of censorship and advance approval of copy. Its editors may develop their own policies, but it will be explicitly stated on the editorial page that opinions expressed there are not necessarily those of the College or of the student body.
Each member of the College community must be cognizant of the rights of others, and each person has the responsibility to respect those rights. The institution functions on the basis of mutual responsibility to protect such rights. Students are both members of the College community and citizens of the state of Minnesota. As citizens, students are responsible to the community of which they are a part and the College neither substitutes for, nor interferes with, regular legal processes.
